Well my poor sweet boy ended up back in surgery this last week, he had only just finished with his first surgery to fix the right back legs 5 weeks ago, and suddenly he became lame in the left back leg. The poor thing had torn his cartilage and ligament around the knee to pieces. So we had to do the surgery that was planned for next year on the left leg, now! He has been recovering all week, with a very worried sleep deprived mummy :(

This time around he is less confident about walking, with two new legs! He will get there, I've seen improvement today, day 4, he can take a few steps on his own...but I hope he is well enough for Christmas!

Hasn't the last part of the year flown by! Well it has for me! I was quite ill in October, November saw stressful times as my little dog Pippin had to have surgery one of his back legs. The vet discovered that he had slipped kneecaps on both rear legs, along with a lot of arthritis in his hips and bone spurs, bowed tibias....oh boy, he was in pain but I was a mess with the thought of him needing surgery. Thank goodness he came through just fine, and is now recovering nicely. He will have his other leg fixed next year, I think we both need time to recover!

I also started on my insulin pump, its been a huge adjustment and a lot of work, but I'm going well with it and I already notice a difference in my diabetes control and how well I feel. It is much easier than all of those injections I've been having for close to 17 years! I'm looking forward to a better life with it.

So, have I had any time to create! Not really! I have finished one custom order which I am really pleased with, a kitty fairy called Solstice, I'm considering more fairy dogs and cats now of course, very inspiring working from someone else's ideas at times :)

And, I almost forgot! I had pre-made a little Elf Bear called Edgar months ago to be featured in Teddy Bear Review. And, so, here he is! He has been waiting for the season for a very long time! He is available to adopt now, if you would like to email me, I can send him off to you as quick as can be, hopefully in time for Christmas! Edgar is 3.5 inches tall, he is made from Sassy Plush in shades of green. Edgar is fully cotter pin jointed, and he has black glass eyes and a embroidered and highly glossed nose. Tiptoe through the tulips...

Well, I wish I had as many to be able to tip toe through, but I'm super excited to see my first tulips! Aren't they pretty :) The air is so fresh and scented with all the spring blooms, its really hard to feel anything but happy in this sort of weather, happy spring!

It is the first day of Spring here in Australia, and as I was wandering around the garden, I found this little girl in our peach tree! She was there to celebrate the beginning of spring, and after sprinkling her magic around our garden, she asked if she could be adopted out to another family in need of some springy fairy dust!

Peach Blossom is just under 3 inches tall (2 and 3/4 inches to be precise) She is hand stitched and 5 way cotter pin jointed. Two little Gnomes...

Don't look if you are squeamish!!

Well here is some proof that I am actually a soft sculpture artist, and not only a gardener ;) These little guys are slowly coming together and will hopefully meet the world this weekend as Gnome bears. I adore gnomes, really, I can never choose between faeries, gnomes, elves.....dragons...I love them all, but I have a real earthly connection to gnomes, maybe because I love to garden so much!

So I can't wait to finish these little guys! I just love the colours too....mauve and a light lemon, so pretty, and it will be fun choosing coordinating colours for their clothes :) Well, back to work! Now we need to fill their bellies with stuffing, sew on their ears and make them some clothes and that special Gnome hat that no respectabable ;) Gnome would be seen without!

Reminders of Spring....

So....anyone who knows me, knows how much I love my garden, and how depressing it was for me living in a hot climate and unable to grow all the cool climate plants.....so, now I am in a cool(er) climate I am bursting with delight at seeing my first crocus show its sunny little face :) Along with my mini Daffodils, Jetfire, and Tete a Tete. They are soo cute!! Quite different to jonquils I think. I'm waiting on my anemone's, freesia's and grape hyacinth in my front patch and the rest of the daffs and crocus to flower of course...I'm already planning more bulbs to buy for next years display, somehow I think I'll overdo it....you may just see my bright patch of colour when you look at Australia on google earth maps.....hehe

I loooove country life, sigh, bliss :)

Our lovely Miss Birch has a while to wait yet before she dresses in her swaying green frock for the summer....
I think she is lovely even still....

And my potted colour, keeping things cheery through the winter out in the back, as we work on the garden :)

Well, off for a hot cup of tea, as I listen to the pitter patter of rain on the roof and think some more about what to plant next in my garden, TTFN :)

Whale adventures......

Humpback Whale

Here in South East Australia, we are lucky enough to have two whale watching seasons....In the winter, down at Portland, we have nearly daily sightings of the Humpback Whale, and also Southern Right Whales. I've been a nature lover for as long as I can remember, so seeing these beautiful creatures up close is something I've been eager to do for a long time...So, down we headed for a day trip to Portland...and of course, this day the whales are shy!! Today there have been two sightings of groups of both whales! So, we'll just have to persevere and go down a few more times to try and catch a glimpse! Anyway, we had a nice trip down, and saw a lot of other scenery to make it worth the trip!

No, we saw no whales, but, we saw wind turbines! On our trip to Cape Nelson, we came across all of these! They are huge! And quite scary when they pop up on the side of the road, or seemingly in your path at the end of a windy road....it felt like we were in a computer game and had to make a counted out run for it to get to the other side lol

Pip was a happy traveller :)

The Blowholes were spectacular! The way the waves swooshed about looked so pretty, so many colours of blue.....the rest of the sea was so calm and tranquil...

The clifftop walk....and the petrified forest! We were soo excited to think these were trees from millions of years ago....but, no.....read further and you will see our disappointment...

Still pretty cool though huh ;)

So...maybe next time we will find some whales....or maybe when I buy a super zoom lens.... ;)

Cake day and a Blue Pixie!

Well its certainly been a busy week! Yesterday was my puppy's birthday, my sweet boy turned 4! And of course he was spoiled rotten, and had a special cake made just for him, gingerbread so it wouldn't upset a wee boys tummy, and enjoyable for his humans too :)

And today I finished my blue Pixie bear! I had originally intended for her to be complete along

with the release of my first two Pixie's, but, time got away from me! I must admit, I think she is very sweet, even in her blue colour! I am very much a pink shades girl, and the blues are foreign territory to me so I am always asonished when I like my blue bears so much! My sister and I always joked that I was the pink fairy from Disneys Sleeping Beauty, and her the blue! I would make everything pink in the world, her blue, such fun to have a sister you can be young at heart with :)

Inspiration hits...

Well it didn't take long for my room to inspire me! I have been working on a brand new bear design, size and fabric. Sassy mini bear plush is amazingly versatile and what I find exciting is the range of vivid colours it is available in, perfect for my storybook style of creations. It is so super soft, its hard to stop stroking it! I've also shaved an inch off of my usual sizing and changed my design a little. I love the teeny size of these little bears and how nice they snuggle into my hand!

Well here we are, 10 months on from my move to the beautiful South Eastern Australian countryside. I'm finally settled into my new studio and excited to get back to work! I'm so happy and proud of all the work I've put into my room, its been slow progress and hard work too, but I am so happy I'm finally finished, and ready to open my studio again!!! Favourite things...

I'm feeling a bit sad, of course I'm still getting over my grief, but my arthritis is flaring, and swollen fingers bring on the fear and upset of not being able to do the things I love, I know the stressful time I've been having has probably lead to my flare, so I need to relax a little and get some balance back into my life and not push my limits so much. A dear friend of mine told me to keep focusing on my favourite things, so taking her advice here are a few photos of the things that brighten my corner of the world...no matter how deflated I feel....

My Mum brought these tiny cookies back from her visit to Hahndorf, they were so sweet, I put them on one of her old little tea plates to take a photo, before I ate them all ;) Cute aren't they!
Because I was doing so poorly back home, mum also bought me a couple of presents, a gorgeous toadstool! Don't ya just love the flowers and sparkly gems :) If you didn't know, mushrooms and toadstools are some of my favourite things to collect....after all, fairies and gnomes shelter under them :)
I collect trinket boxes and perfume bottles too, so she brought me the butterfly bottle at the back, its so pretty :) Sparkly things always cheer me up, so a dressing table full of things that glint and shimmer is bliss :)
My favourite books....some of them anyway...I have sooo many. These always make me smile, dream and wonder.....
My boy, in play, waiting for me to kick his ball to him, by my side always, sickness or health :) hehe
I love my fairy doll Cricket, I've had her for soooo long now, I made her from the green ware stage way back when I was 17 years old! I would like to buy her a new wig one of these days, and make her some new wings too.....
and if all else fails, our sunsets are gorgeous here.....imagine the whole sky, as if the clouds had been painted with a fine wispy brush in a gorgeous shades of pink......ahhhhh :)

Happy New Year of the Rabbit!

I don't think I've ever experienced such a turbulent year as the last, my family and I moved house in August, 6 hours away from my birth town, it was an adventure we were all ready for and excited about, but moving is stressful even more so when you have to allow for chronic health problems, and there is also that problem of selling our old house! Soon after, my younger sister, and little buddy forever, nearly died in two medical emergencies, it was a devastating time for us all.... Hoping that the calendar new year would bring in a positive change, we then unexpectently lost our dear Grandad, he fought for nearly a month in the hospital on a respirator. The doctors finally told us last week there was no more hope, so with a heavy heart I write this post....also with a hopeful heart, the year of the rabbit promises to be less of a roller coaster ride than the last year of the tiger, I hope the little rabbit follows through on her promises and I will take her lead and re-begin my goals for what seems like the umpteenth time, I won't give up although sometimes I feel like it.

So, I begin again, sitting in my studio, feeling the first waves of inspiration fill me as I look at my knick knacks and craft supplies......two bears waiting to be photographed on my work table that I started in December last year, I have been snatching opportunities to work on my beloved soft sculpture over the last months and these two littlies have been pleading for their photos to be taken so they can get on with their lives and find a family, I can't help feeling guilty each time I glimpse them sitting amongst a mess of cottons and patterns on my table, waiting, waiting patiently for me to find the time to see to them.

We love our new home and town, and feel so grateful to have made our escape to the country, especially each time we open the windows and feel the country sea breeze blowing through the house, knowing that back home in the city they are experiencing heat waves.....ahh bliss!! Life will get easier again, we are all set to enjoy our new life, but life has thrown us a few awful curve balls, I guess feeling loss so deeply only means that you love and are loved, and that is the most important thing in life I believe :)

So, Happy New Year on the 3rd of February, I am embracing this celebration as my own, may the year of the Rabbit bring you health, happiness and success in all you do! XX

Unicorn.....

As you know, I love fantasy and mythical beings, I love imagining that they are or were really alive, wouldn't that be fantastic! At this time of the year, magic is really stirring in the air, and so I thought there was no better time to introduce another mythical being into my Bearykins collection, the Unicorn! I thoroughly enjoyed making her, from her gorgeous pink fur, to her flowing mohair mane...

I am so thrilled beyond words, many thanks to all the lovely people at TBR who thought my little bear worthy, thank you so much!!!

Escape to the Country!

We finally did it!! After a year of umming and ahhing we found a perfect place to settle in the South East of Australia, Mount Gambier. I truly didn't think we would ever actually move, and it has been a mammoth job, but the heat of summer in Adelaide was getting too extreme for all of us to cope with any longer. We wanted a healthier and easier life, and Mt Gambier offers it all, scenery, milder weather and no water restrictions mean beautiful green gardens, my green thumbs can't wait to get planting :) The city has also has all the conveniences of modern life (all the fast food joints are here lol), mixed with many quaint country stores makes shopping (and eating out) delightful! A few minutes out of the city centre and you're back amongst rolling hills and pine trees....beautiful! I'm so glad we made the decision!!

So, now we are here, I'm unpacking all of my work boxes, and hopefully I'll have some new little Jellybelly Bears ready to be adopted soon! I can't wait to get back into my work! But moving house comes along with lots of work before the fun can start ;) I hope to decorate my sewing room as prettily as my old one, but of course it will be different and that will take some getting used to. But I promise, as soon as it is ready, I'll show you around :)

It's my darling boy's birthday!! Happy Birthday Pippy :) He is truly such a joy in my life, I know I'm probably sounding like one of those silly women who overcompensates with their dogs for lack of having children of their own, and I guess I am LOL, but....I really couldn't have asked for a better puppy than my cute little Pip. He is my constant companion, makes me laugh daily with his antics and provides inspiration for my designs too. I made an apple slab cake and cut him a small piece so I could give him his candles and birthday wish and he could dive right in, he was crying for his cake by the end of the song (yes we sang hehe) I wonder what he wished for........

I haven't made a Lil' Spook in awhile, I was actually making a little panda bear, when I thought, "you'd look much better with fangs and wings" and so...Josephine was born! The name....it just came to me, there is no reference to any Vampirey characters as far as I know....she was not really planned, more one of those creations that just happens for some reason....lol

Raindrops on roses...

Its that time of year again, when I breath a sigh of relief that the summer is over! The garden also comes back to life in a somewhat spingtime form, enjoying the coolness after the crisping heat of summer. Life is good again! A friendly parrot stopped by to tell us so :)
I love coming outside after a rain to find silvery raindrops on all the roses and foliage, its a magical feel to be in a glistening garden, breathing in the cool sweet air after the harsh South Australian summer.

I thought it would be nice to share some photos of the place where I create my little bears and critters. I've decorated it in a fairy woodland theme, and it not only inspires me, but I also find it a relaxing place to drink a cup of tea, or even do my mediation and yoga. Somebody told me that my bears look a lot like my dogs little face, I suppose I'm not the only artist with a furkid to be inspired by their little bundle of fluff :) Funnily enough, years ago, our only family dogs were Jack Russells and until I adopted my little boy Papillon 2 years ago, I used to make bears with much longer muzzles and smaller eyes. I have often wondered over the last year why I changed my style from bears that look older in age, to much younger baby cute bears.....now I realise my little Pippin pooch is to blame :) I love making wee babe bearykins though and really think the change did my creative spirit good, thank you Pippin :)

A Bearykin and a Bearie

I just wanted to share a couple of my recently adopted bears, my little Sugar Plum Bearie, a celebration of Christmas straight from my favourite ballet and composer The Nutcracker! Shes made from Japanese silk plush, a special gift from my buddy Karen, I was so worried about using it but it sewed up so beautifully and is so very soft and luxurious! I hand made her wings as I usually do and made her little tutu and studded it with Swarovski crystals. She was featured in the Christmas issue of Teddy Bear Review.

And here is Tilly, my first little mousie :) I have had such fun making her I'm going to make more mice very soon, I am really enjoying making wee animal folk :)

It's that sparkly time of year again :)

Christmas is almost here, my favourite time of year, I decorate our house as soon as December the 1st hits, this year I couldn't help setting up a week early ;) I love this time of year for that magical feeling in the air, plus all that glittery sparkle and tinsel, if I could tinsel my house all year round I would hehe, here are some snaps I just took today starting with our dear angel, she has been the first thing we bring out always, she plays silent night and must be at least 30 yrs old now!

Happy Halloween

We don't really celebrate Halloween here in Australia, I think it stinks, but after a Canadian friend of mine sent me a little "care package" and gave me a taste of how much fun it is, I couldn't help going out to the few stores we have here with Halloween supplies and spending up big. I felt I needed the cheering up this October anyway, (thats my excuse ;) So, our living room had a big spook job (as well as this amateur aussie can do anyway hehe). I ended up scaring myself with the fake spiders more than once which was quite funny, the fake web is so sticky, how was I to know it was attached to my foot with a plastic spider and a real one wasn't actually chasing me ;)

Anyway, going all out in the baking department too, I tried a famous USA Pumpkin Pie recipe, I wasn't sure about it at first taste, but it grew on me and I ended up eating nearly the whole thing on my own lol. Spooky cookies and cupcakes were another treat. yum!

My little bear Esme found a loving home in England, but poor Jasper is still waiting for the right person to take him home. I may place him on Ebay shortly.

So, until next time, I hope you had a fun Halloween, I envy all you trick or treaters out there ;)

We lost our sweet little girl Nala a week ago today from stroke, it has been a very hard, emotional week, it was such a shock, we knew she was older, but in true Jack Russell form, she didn't stop bouncing off the walls till that first stroke hit. I am still crying but it is getting a little easier and today, I saw a rainbow, after reading the rainbow bridge poem I am sure this was a message from her that she is happy and we will meet again. She came to live with my family from the pound in '99 and we have had 10 happy years with her, with lots of love both ways. Here are a few photos, the last one is only 10 days before her passing, I will miss my little Nala :(

My first Elefant...

Emmaline is my very first elephant! I have always loved elephants, so as the story often goes with things you love, I left it a very long time to create my own, I was always too scared to make one, just incase it didn't work out! But I'm happy to say, I'm in love with my little Elefant Emmaline and have even decided to keep her for myself ;) I know more will be on the way soon though :) You can see more photos on my website, Bearykins collection!

Its been a hectic couple of months, I hardly know where July and August have gone! I've been busy finishing orders, including a special bear for a Christmas magazine issue (I know, already yikes!!), I've also had the flu to get over (not swine!). I've been having some fun too with a bear show to visit and I had a special bear artist friend come stay with me too. I have also spent a lot of time with my lovely niece and nephew over the winter, they both love baking so we've been making scrumptious things like cupcakes and lemon meringue pie ;)

And finally (phew!) I've managed to list another little bear on Ebay. Stepping away from the fangs this time, she is a sweet little fairy bear, Moya. I hope you'll take a look at this link.

Flowers at last...

After the long hot, intensly hot, summer we had at the start of this year, its been sooo lovely to have rain here where I live, pouring rain, ahhhh :) Finally the garden is getting back on track, we've had some beautiful late roses, the wistera is ready to burst out in flower, and the pansies and snapdragons are starting to put on a colourful display. I lost all but one of my (10) azaleas over the summer, here is the sole survivor! Hanging on by a thread, most of the plant died back, but I was astonished to find it now flowering on the two remaining branches in a pink shade as well as the original white colour, and look, one flower is half and half! Isn't nature amazing :) My puppy Pippin thinks so ;)
